Hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park

In the heart of the Austrian Alps lies the Hohe Tauern National Park – extending over 1,800m2, this is the second largest in Europe. One of the last great sanctuaries for flora and fauna.

Only through the preservation of their habitats can both endangered and non-endangered species in the Hohe Tauern survive. Here is where nature shows her prettiest side: Austria´s highest mountain peak, sweeping glacier surfaces, alpine meadows, cliffs and waterfalls – all in harmonic unity with old cultural landscapes, shaped by forgone centuries.

Colorful alpine meadow flowers line the over 600 km of marked hiking trails. The level of difficulty ranges from family friendly easy, to high alpine. The routes are nevertheless well signposted.
Rustic wooden cabins, mouth-watering alpine delicacies and that easy life where everyone´s on familiar terms. There´s a complete world of its own awaiting the alpine visitor. With its own flair and own particular romanticism
